How Credit Counselling Can Help
Have you been struggling to pay your bills on time and finding that your debts just seem to keep adding up? You are not alone. Thousands of other individual Canadians and small businesses across the country are in the same boat. At F. J. Zielski & Associates Inc., we offer credit counselling in Belleville and the Quinte region to both individual and small business clients to help them get a better handle on their finances.
What Is Credit Counselling?
Credit counselling is essentially a process designed to reduce the amount of debt that an individual or a small business owes. It provides comprehensive financial help that allows you to regain financial stability so that you can start saving and investing your money.
When you visit our office in Belleville, you will sit down with a skilled and experienced insolvency trustee to go over your current financial situation. They will then present you with your best options for getting out of debt and help you create a plan to successfully pursue your chosen option.
Methods of Debt Management
There are three main methods of debt management available through credit counselling:
1) Debt management plans
A debt management plan is a proposal for paying off your debt in a way that reduces how much you owe or gives you more time to pay. Your licensed insolvency trustee will bring your proposal to your creditors on your behalf, and your creditors can choose to enter into a voluntary agreement with you if they accept.
2) Consumer proposals
A consumer proposal involves all of your creditors taking a vote on whether or not to accept your offer for paying off your debt. If more than 50% of your creditors accept, then the proposal becomes a legally binding contract on all of your creditors.
3) Debt consolidation
Debt consolidation means using a debt consolidation loan from one single lender to pay off multiple lenders. You will then only need to make one smaller and more manageable payment every month towards your debt consolidation loan.
Signs You Should Consider Credit Counselling
Not sure if credit counselling is the right choice for you? Here are some of the main signs that you should seek out credit counselling from our Belleville office.
- You don't have cash on hand and you rely largely on using credit.
- You have recently requested multiple credit card limit increases.
- You have recently applied for multiple new credit cards.
- You have paid one creditor using a cash advance from another creditor.
- Your monthly debt payments are over 20% of your income.
